幾層にも積み上げられた地上空間と、幾層にも拡張された地下空間によって構成される現代の都市。グラウンドラインというものは広々とした空と詰まった地面の境界に存在し、そこに足を着けて生きることこそ我々の本来の姿であったが、都市においてその存在は非常に曖昧になりつつある。我々は無意識的に地上と地下を行き来しており、都市のレイヤー構造の中で自分がどの層を歩いているのかを考えることすら、もはやほとんどなくなったのではないだろうか。この多層的な都市の構造は、目紛しく移り変わる現代の魅力のひとつであるとともに、ある種の不安定さを感じさせざるを得ないものでもある。
　深く堕ちていく地下への階段は、現代社会が生み出した「都市の深淵」である。高層建築のミニチュアとも言える不安定なキャビネットにこれを落とし込むことで、止まることなく鉛直方向に広がる現代の都市の構造に疑問を投げかけたい。深淵は今もなお増殖し、我々が踏みしめるべき大地を蝕み続けている。

 

  Contemporary cities are composed of many floors stacked one upon another on the ground and many layers dug one below another under the ground. There is the "ground line" between the extensive sky and the massive surface of the earth, and we, human beings, had been living putting ourselves on this line. But today, especially in urban areas, we sometimes wonder where the actual ground level is. We are transferring back and forth between the ground floors and basement floors without being aware of where we are standing, not even caring which floor we are walking on. This multi-layered structure is one of the extremely fascinating aspects of present day that is rapidly changing day by day, yet on the other hand, it may sometime suddenly make us anxious and make us feel unstable.
  A stairway leading deep into the underground is “an abyss of the city” created by modern society. I have tried revealing this space using unstable cabinets representing skyscrapers and showing entrance to the abyss in each cabinet. And here, I aim to ask a question to the structure of contemporary city architecture that is expanding in the vertical direction. Even today this very minute, the number of urban abyss as well as its scale is increasing and eroding the earth we should firmly be stepping on.
